Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast cancer is a disease that we are definitely aware of year round. In October, more attention is brought to the dreaded disease that takes too many lives each year. Reminding women to do self exams, get their mammograms and also to remind their family and close friends to do the same. It can never be said enough that early detection is vital. The sooner you find out that you have breast cancer the sooner treatment can begin.

I dread my yearly gyno visit, but I make myself go and have a mammogram scheduled. A few years ago I had a benign breast cyst. That was a little scary. In waiting for the results from the needle aspiration I was quite nervous. It turned out okay and I was quite relieved. I was lucky that time but you never know what the future holds.

This month there are breast awareness marathons, walks and campaigns around the world to bring attention to the disease. More funds are needed for research and hopefully one day a cure will be found.
