Is it time for new mixing bowls?
With the holidays approaching sooner than you think, it is time to make sure you have all of the baking and cooking utensils that will be needed to guarantee that your favorite recipes come out to perfection.
Mixing bowls have a tendency to be overlooked. They are essential when it comes to mixing up all of the ingredients for your holiday cookies, pies, cakes and quick breads. A few years ago I went through my kitchen cabinets and realized that I had some mixing bowls that were quite old. They were scraped up, faded in color and just plain shoddy. Into the trash they went. I purchased new mixing bowls in various sizes. I really needed some larger mixing bowls so that I could double up on some of my recipes.
Whatever mixing bowls you will need to purchase for yourself or as a gift for someone that loves to bake, there is a good selection available online to choose from.
Stainless steel mixing bowls
Some people prefer stainless steel mixing bowls to the plastic ones. I have a friend who insists that a stainless steel bowl is the best bowl to use when making the pie dough. She chills the bowl so that all her ingredients, especially the butter will remain cold while she is mixing the dough together.
You will get your money's worth when you purchase stainless steel mixing bowls. They are easy to care for, durable and will last a long time.
Plastic mixing bowls
Plastic mixing bowls are my favorites. They are lightweight and dishwasher safe. They are also available in a variety of colors and sizes. I especially like the one with the hand grip. That bowl is perfect for mixing up ingredients that do not require an electric mixer.
Some of the bowls have a non-slip bottom keeping it stablized while you are mixing all of the ingredients together. This is definitely a good feature when choosing new mixing bowls to purchase online.
Ceramic and Stonewear mixing bowls
Years ago, my Mom had ceramic mixing bowls which she used quite often. I remember them well because I would help her wash them by hand, (no dishwasher back then) when she was finished making us cookies or her wonderful cinnamon rolls. They are perfect for letting dough rise.
Ceramic and stonewear mixing bowls are a little heavier than plastic or stainless steel mixing bowls. They are dishwasher, oven and microwave safe.
Melamine Ribbed Mixing Bowl - Set Of Six
